The End of Another Season
Friday, 14 May 2010 11:43
Hi there everyone, well we ventured over to Kihikihi for the King country champs a few weeks ago for what was our last meeting of the 09/10 season and with a feild of 35 cars in race one it was going to be carnage.

Starting grid 7 it didnt even go a lap and Tyson Wooton was taking out Mike Hohneck so we were in 2nd place cruising along until the right rear tyre blew with two laps to go ruining our chances.

Race two and with a rear grid it was pretty much over for us in the points chase. After a few laps we were making up some positions but on the look out to help the Rotorua boys if needed and didnt take long with Tyson doing his thing with 81r Orr car so we went in with a side shot and it worked as he now went for me and damian got free to carry on racing. We ended that lap with a flat left front and with a red light stopage a rear end hit which took out our fan so that was our meeting over.

We did two seasons with the same electric fan and have now done three this season (either im getting hit more often and harder or they don't make em like they use to) so we have our first modification on the list for the off season. We don't have to much on the plan for the off season but depending on the money tree in the back yard we need some more hp to at least make us a lil more competitive. The car is still pretty straight so just a couple of new siderails and she will be ready to go again. We are undecided at this stage if we will be racing next season as we have a couple of things on the go at the moment and horsepower doesn't come cheap.

Would like to thank all our sponsors who have helped us out to a huge extent this season, if not for these guys we probably wouldn't have been here this season. Cheers Greg

Hickey Contractors Easter Meeting @ Rotorua
Wednesday, 07 April 2010 23:03
After the previous meeting a week earlier In Rotorua we only had to put a new battery in the car and we we ready to go again so the aim was to finish 6 races and we managed that thankfully.  38 cars were their for the first night and we were paired with local racer Aaron King for the pairs championship. Their was a change of format this year where we only raced in 3 of the 4 heats each night so the fields were consistently around 26 cars on the tight Paradise Valley circuit both nights.

In both race one and two we got spun in the first lap but regained some places with some good consistant laps to finish 14th and 15th out of the 28 or 29 starters in each race. In our 3rd heat we started on grid 6 and managed a top 3 finish in what was our best finish since the north island champs. We are well down on horsepower compared to a lot of the cars now in this class so by race end the old girl was rather hot and asking for water but we had an awesome handling car and with our quickest lap of the season in 18.32 secs.

Night two
After a clean and a nut and bolt check the car was loaded up ready for nights action. In our first race we only picked up two spots from a grid 13 start but those other 12 were smokin. . . Race 2 and we had a grid 1 start so we made the most of it leading for three quarters of the race until coming up to lap 24r and he decided to turn on us going down the back straight and take out the right front tyre. End result 1st to 20th in four laps which cost our pairs points championship a podium spot for sure.

We missed the next race as it was our bye race so we couldn't return the favour. . . but Mike Hohneck sure did with his own battle with the same driver ( The hit of the season ) In our last race of the season at Paradise Valley we were out of the overall points championship but in 5th in the pairs so we were still hope full of a podium if all went well. We started on grid 24 and managed to miss some of the huge hits being put in and came home 8th passing 16 cars but falling one point short of the podium so finishing 4th overall in the Easter pairs champs. Was a great end to what was a good season of racing at Paradise Valley and if the car doesn't sell well we may be back again next year to do it all again.

P.S We had such a great weekend we need one more chance of a decent result so we are off to Kihikihi this Sunday for the King Country champs. . .   C u there

We were looking forward to this meeting as so far this season we hadn't really had a consistently good handling race car. We made some changes to the suspension and found a problem that has been bugging us all season long so we were hoping for good things. . . Friday night qualifying was going to be tough as per most qualifying nights in the stockcar class these days and we needed to be in the top 4 to go through to the finals. First race we only picked up for spots after been spun early but the car was goin great especially with a pissed off driver in the seat.

The second race we needed a good haul of points to get back up with the leading drivers but after the first corner mayhem we got a few wacks in the front left wheel and the king pin bolt decided that was enough and we ended our race on the in field desperately trying to get back on the track for some points. Back in the pits we struggled to get the kingpin out so changed the whole front end but ended up 2 mins late for the last race. Result a dns and a rather sad end to the night of racing.

Saturday we fixed the front end and tires and we were ready for another night of hopefully good racing. It all ended in the first in  repercharge race where the battery died and we were out for the night. So after two nights and only two and a bit races we loaded up and watched what was a awesome night of racing. This guy was so impressed to see the Rotorua boys working together in what was an amazing race and congrats to Shaun Stewart for the win.
