Rotorua Opening Night

Hey Race Fans

Well, what a week that was. Not much sleep was had but we managed to get the car to Rotorua's opening night just!! Big thanks to the crew for all your help in getting the car track side as I can not do it without you: Ants who did some big hours with me this week, Lil Jim, Matt, and my wife Tracey (who hasn't seen me much this week). Those all important sponsors: Gaddum Construction, Reconz, O'Connor Race Engines, Warehouse Auto Parts, Spincar, as well as those who have helped us out: Mike Hohneck at Mufflers & More and Lance at Autowire Nz for completely rewiring our car.

Time flies in the off season and the planned preseason practice went out the window so just making opening night was awesome. We had a brand new engine built by Terry at O'Connor Race Engines after cooking the old engine beyond repair. We now have some extra power under the hood which, once we sort our setup (not just doing bumper heights ha ha) and tyres out, should make us more competitive.

Race 1

We started p14 and not knowing what to expect we just got on with it. Although the driver was out of shape inside the car, the car itself was going well. Taking the gaps and picking up positions lap by lap. coming home 4th which we were stoked with.

Race 2

Starting p2 we were on the front row hoping for good things. We came out of turn 2 in 1st position and held it till late in the race before dropping to p2. We ended up getting spun out on the last lap last corner with a couple of decent hits killing the battery.... end result a dnf.

Race 4

We had to sit out race 3 due to the format which worked in our favour. This gave us time to race into town to get another battery. Thanks to Steve Orr, we made it back on track for our last race. Starting p12 we got away to a good start picking up some spots. We benefited from a few cars not making the grid and crossed the finishing line with another 4th placing.

So at the end of a huge week we came away happy that we are on the pace and with more to come which is a promising start to the season. Next meeting is the House of Travel Series in Rotorua next weekend so hope to see you all there.

Cheers

Greg
