Well it has been a while between updates due to the never-ending rain but we finally got a run 7 weeks after opening night. It was just a club night but we used it to try a few different combinations in the lead up to the gp in Rotorua.
First night qualifying in the top 6 for the gp was always going to be tough but with three clean races anything’s possible. First race starting p8 we made a few places but lost a couple towards the end finishing p7. Race two starting p16 we just were never in it with the track being like a skating rink and driver error finishing p16. Race three starting p8 we kept out of trouble and came home p5, we just tried to get the best position we could get for the repechage.
Finals night we had the repechage up first and all we needed to qualify was to finish 1st or 2nd. Starting p2 we came out of the 1st corner which was a good start in p3 and by the 2nd lap we were p2 but it all came undone when we got turned around getting hit in the front end and she was all over. With a quick turnaround between our first race we just missed getting the car repaired in time so missed the first race of the Stocks in paradise. Race two we started p27 and just cruised along as we were out of the running coming home p10. Starting the last race, we went out for a bit of a play and try to get a rotorua car on the top of the podium. Mig in the 72r machine went past on the first corner and we just sat in behind to give him some space. 7h Dave Moore came along so I thought a lil spin would help mig and a bit of payback for the repechage spin earlier in the night. It sort of worked but unfortunately the gear lever came off in my hand and that was that.
All in all, we had fun and there’s not too much work to do for the NZs in Kihikihi next week. Big thanks to my awesome crew as I can’t race without them and there’s always something to be done on my car... Big thanks to lil jim at spincar for all the hours of work behind the scenes with the incar cameras.
See you all in Kihikihi
