Farmline Stockcar Teams @ Kihikihi

Well its been a little while since the last update so i will try to fill you in on some of the stuff we have been up to. After the North Island champs it was almost a month till our next race night which was a Teams event for the Rascals at the at The NZ Superstock Champs in Kihikihi.

Farmline Stockcar Teams
We were up against the Gisbourne Gladiators in the first race for the second time this season and we knew after our last performance it wasn't going to be easy for our new team of Rascals. I was elected to block in this race which was a first for me in my short time as a teams racer and I was looking forward to it.

Everything was goin to plan well sort of with our cars in 2nd and 3rd but the ever elusive and very quick (did i mention quick) Brett Lloyd leading and although i managed to slow his progress many times he kept the pace on and the Gizzy blockers did their bit to aid their flyer. The laps were counting down and on the last lapĀ  I managed to slow Brett coming out of turn two and although he powered past me i followed him into turn 3 and managed to take him out then hold him up enough for Jeff to come through for the win. It was a close win but we were over the moon to notch up our first win and something we hope to build on for next year.

I sustained a bit of damage in the race so Nick Johnston was brought in for the final against the Huntly Team. Things didn't really go to plan in this race as the Raiders were on a destructive mission and really took it to us, each time we started to get the upper hand they eliminated one of our cars and unfortunately we finished with just one car remaining. The boys put up a great effort but we found a few weaknesses in our cars that will need to be sorted for our next event. We came away 2nd which was a credible effort for our new team.

North Island Champs 22nd January
I'm still working and staying out of town so on the Thursday night when I returned to Rotorua I was pretty happy to come back and find the car cleaned and painted. Thanks to my partner Tracey and Antz for that one. A few hours spent in the shed doing a nut and bolt check and a few odd jobs and it was time to load up.

Heading down with the truck loaded up it was raining most of the way there and it didn't look promising for any racing. After a 4.5hr trip we got to the track for scrutineering and all was good until they questioned my right rear tyre.... different interpretations of the tyre rule made for some anxious moments but all was good.

Race one and with 28 cars in the group trying to qualify for 6 spots we were going to need a bit of luck (something we havent had this season) to qualify. Race one went ok but with a hit in the front left taking out the tyre we finished mid pack. Race two we started on grid 4 and needed a good result, First corner and I got to 2nd then got turned around on turn 2 and just hung on for the ride with 26 cars hitting me out of the way on their way through, end result was 2nd down to 30th in one lap so i now was just out there to help the Rotorua boys.

Race 3 I was on the breaks from the start to give the Rotorua boys in front a bit more breathing space to get some good points to qualify. Once the flag drops its actually quite hard to pick out certain cars you are looking for so I was just cruizin looking and just keeping out of the way of the Rotorua boys and hindering anyone after them. Jason Brown 109r was flying and qualified easily and unfortunitly Jeff Munroe 5r just missed out and well we will try again sometime...

North Island Champs 24th January
The rain kept coming down from just after the meeting finished on Friday so the Saturday meeting was held over to the Sunday and although we didn't qualify for the top 26 or the 2nd tier 26 we stayed around to race the consolations and watch the finals. The meeting started around 2pm after the excavators had removed the top layer of mud from the track and to say it was a little rough well shit happens.

We were first up and we decided to try some suspension changes as there wasn't anything on the line any more and the car went well with a 2nd place. Race 2 and we managed a win!! which is something that has eluded us so far this season so we were stoked. Race 3 and nobody was going to let me past easily so we had a bit of fun out there and finished the race mid pack.

It was another awesome well run meeting put on by the Stratford club and although the rain made it difficult they did well under the circumstances. Congrats to palmy boys for taking out the top 3 spots.
