Night One

Well after four nights we eventually got the two nights racing done, it was a great meeting but the car just wasn't co-operating. We were seeded in blue group which was the second group from the back for the two night championship. Race one and with a rolling start the first corner action didn't take long to eventuate, four cars into one turn didn't go well for me or 99r Shannon Orr with my car ending up on the front of his and coming o so close to being on my side two laps into the race. We eventually got free but finished well down the field. We had some handling issues and found a bent shock so replaced it which was better but we were still struggling for grip coming out of the corners. Race two and this time only one lap and the first corner got us again with the front left wheel getting hammered and not wanting to turn so I decided to stop on the pole line just short of the start finish line which was off the racing line so I could get some points as we definitely needed them. With two laps to go I got a full noise hit up the rear which was always a possibility when i chose to sit there but to pull off we would have got no points. So we did two laps and got 16 points which was better than finishing the whole of race in race one and only getting 21 points. . Race three and all was good until 3 laps from the end when we got spun up and again finished well down the field, the car handled better but its still not quite right.

Night Two

On Monday we gave the car a clean and a nut and bolt check and we were ready for a better nights racing hopefully, although the weather looked a lil dodgy we headed to the track. Race one and with light drizzle falling we headed out for race one of the night and although making up five spots the lack of traction was still a problem. We finished the last half a lap with the car mis firing due to the crank sensor giving up so lucky for us the meeting was postponed til the next day due to the weather. The second race ended up being two days later and with a new sensor the car was sounding good until two laps in it started missing again so we had our first dnf for the season. Would like to thank Nick Johnston and crew for the help in repairing the car and although missing the next race we made the last which for us was just a race to make sure the car was firing on all cylinders. We started on the rear of the grid and made up quite a few spots but not enough to claim the cash. So after some seven races and four days we finished with some engine issues sorted but some handling ones still to work on....

Friday Dec 11th Club Night

Hi there race fans.....As the team headed up to Paradise Valley for another club night we were definitely wondering if it was going to happen as the weather was not looking flash but the rain pretty much stayed away so we should have got 3 races in but.....

The new track surface was looking a bit wet with the showers (and a shade of pink) so we were unsure how the car would handle on the new surface. Big thanks to Stan and helpers as i no it would have been a huge job to get the track usable let alone race-able for us all Friday night and what a race track we had... awesome.

Race one and we were off grid 1 and took off and made it through first corner things were going good until going into turn one on second lap and as i tapped the break to turn the car in it went right!!! Strange.. dropped a couple of places and same thing again a lap later so now had to compensate for it and picked up a few places as the car was hooking up well on the new surface.

Turns out the rotor parted company with the hub so we had no breaks on the front left wheel and as we were a little slow (out of practise) on the repairs we missed the second race by about one minute.

As we fired the car up for race 3 in the pits we also became aware that we only had second gear so it was decided to go out anyway and hope we didn't need reverse at some stage. The race went well and we picked up a few spots and had a play around with a few cars as it was only a club night and there wasn't much happening out there.

Next meeting will be on the 27th/ 28th of december for the Summit Aluminium UK Stockcars event in Rotorua. The team was intending to be in wellington for the NZ teams event but the Rascals are now in a year of development with new team members so will be back next year at the nationals bigger and better.

See you at the track Greg

Hi there race fans... Well we made it to opening night after a frantic few days to put the car back together in time for Rotorua's huge guy fawkes meeting.
Since the last update there sure has been some hours spent in the shed and the time involved in replacing my roof plate and hip plates was alot longer than i planed so the presure was on the last few weeks to get her finished. Big thanks to Carl from B C Engineering in Rotorua for helping me out with the plates as to say it was taking me a while to sort is an under statement.

Rotorua Guy Fawkes Meeting - Results page
We made it to the track at 3pm for the last greensheeting day and after the checks were complete we were informed of a minor issue that needed sorting.... a minor issue that now had us scrambling home to sort and we just made it back to the track at 645pm and make it out for our first race. Starting p10 on a slightly wet track we set off and lost about 5 or 6 places in the first corner but steadily came back to finish 9th which i was happy with considering it was just rolled off the truck and straight  out onto the track. I think we got our fastest lap time ever in this race even though the setup was no where near where it should have been.... very interesting result.

Race two

From a pole position start i was hoping for a good result to get me up in the club points, all was going well with a good close race with Shannon Orr and Jeff Munroe until half way through the race i got a big push off the end and got turned around facing the wrong way. I recovered a few spots but it wasnt the result i was after and the new bumper didnt like it much either.

Race 3

Starting from  p19 i definately had to make up a few spots to get some decent points and although i picked up 9 spots the setup still wasnt right and we just couldnt catch the front runners. Nothing to eventfull happened in this race but there are definately some quick stockcars in Rotorua this season so the team will have to have our setup sorted in order to try and keep up with the big horsepower boys or . . .

Next meeting is a club night Friday the 13th november, see you there... Greg
